One of Tim's more endearing habits was that he often "forgot" to title his compositions - or, if he did, to forget their names soon after. Even when presenting friends with cassettes of his latest recordings, certain tracks - especially instrumentals - were left untitled.

Hence this collection, 10 instrumentals (or near-instrumentals) recorded at a variety of studios between 1979-1981, with the final four taped at home in Fulham towards the end of that span.

Several reflect elements of other compositions. "Untitled 'g"" is somehow reminiscent of "End of the Road," while there is surely the ghost of TV Smith's "Last Words of the Great Explorer" to be heard in "Untitled 'd'." Perhaps most suggestive of all, however, is the closing "Untitled 'k'," which sharp ears will recognize as "Fox,"composed and recorded prior to the writing of the lyric that actor Paul Bacon so effectively delivered formatter incarnations of the Hello album. (This performance is available on the TCMP release "Friends and relations Volume One").

It is unclear who accompanies Tim on the majority of these tracks - guitarist Erik Russell, who kindly supplied tracks 1-6, can certainly be heard on several, although even he is no longer certain which.

Finally, apologies for the quality of several of these tracks (most notably 7-11); the only extant recordings, sadly, are second-or-worse generation cassettes that, despite being cleaned up as much as possible, nevertheless bear the scars of time.
